10 Spectacular Bible Verses About Hope to Help You Push Through Hard Times

Introduction

I truly believe that right now, more than ever, we need hope. We need hope in all areas of our lives including physical & mental health, relationships, finances, etc.

Hope is trusting that something positive will come out of a situation. For believers, our hope is in Jesus Christ. We know that one day he will return and gather his sons & daughters from the earth, both dead & alive, to bring them to a place he had prepared for them ever since his departure.

That day is coming very soon, and as believers we live in expectancy of that great day, every single day. It is with this hope that we push through life in this evil world and it is with this hope that we encourage other believers whose faith and hope may be falling due to the trials and tribulations of this world.

It is my goal today to encourage you, to give you hope that God’s word does contain hope, that Jesus is coming back and that God is with you today.

1. God’s got your back

Bible verse about hope:

Deuteronomy 31:6:

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Life Application

Moses gave this word of encouragement to the nation of Israel just before they took possession of the Promised Land. This message also applies to believers today because, this promise of God is also mentioned in the passage below:

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,

“I will never fail you.
I will never abandon you.”

Hebrews 13:5 (NLT)

As you can see, this promise of God also holds true in the New Testament. As believers we should have this promise front and center in our minds. No matter what we may be going through, God promises to there with us through it all and his will for your life will never fail.

2. God will empower you

Bible verse about hope:

Isaiah 41:10:

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Life Application

We’re once again presented with the promise of God’s presence in our lives. Fear and discouragement are natural feelings that we all feel, but the decision to remain in that state of mind is our own choice.

We have the free-will and choice to decide if we will trust God when we are fearful or discouraged, or not.

This promise should give you hope that no matter what you’re going through he is still your God. He has promised to give you strength in your time of need and hold you up in victory even in your moments of weakness.

3. God has a plan for you

Bible verse about hope:

Jeremiah 29:11:

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Life Application

While this message from God was specifically for his people in exile in the land of Babylon, it still instills hope into believers all over the world till this day.

Even though this was a specific message for a specific group of people, it is still safe to believe that God has good plans for his children today.

This does not mean that believers should and will never face hard times, but that in the midst of the chaos, God can still be glorified as long as we have faith.

4. Draw near to God and he will fill you with happiness

Bible verse about hope:

Zephania 3:17:

For the Lord your God is living among you.
    He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Life Application

Those who are true born-again believers in Jesus Christ have God living in them via the Holy Spirit. That means that the spirit of the mighty savior dwells inside of a believer.

God wants to live inside of his children. He wants to rejoice with them not only in Heaven, but also here on earth. If you draw near to God by following him and obeying his commands, you’ll be allowing God to fill you with gladness.

He is the source of all happiness and joy. I you’re lacking in happiness and joy, then draw near to him. Pray and read his word. Let his teachings fill your mind and pray that he can guide your every step so that you can live out those teachings.

By doing this, you’ll start to experience the love and joy of God in your life more and more.

5. God loves you deeply

Bible verse about hope:

Romans 5:5

And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Life Application

The hope that is being referred to in this passage is the hope of salvation. Believers can have a confident hope of their salvation because the Holy Spirit makes them aware of the amount of love God has for them individually.

God is a personal being just as we are. After all, we were made in the image of God. And this Almighty, personal being has a level of love for us that we are not able to comprehend without having the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.

So, if you’re a true born-again believer, you can be at peace about your salvation. The hope that you have in the salvation provided by Jesus Christ will not be in vain. That is a promise.

6. God’s rewards for you are worth the wait

Bible verse about hope:

Romans 8:24-25:

We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)

Life Application

So what are believers waiting and hoping for? To be fully delivered from sin, disease, suffering and death.

If God were to deliver us from these the moment we were saved, then we would have nothing else to hope for. How can we be so sure that we’ll be set free from the things mentioned above?

Well, because God said so. That is all you need to be fully confident in know that it will indeed come to pass at some point in the future.

As believers, we are to hold onto this promise every day and be patient, yet confident that God will fulfill this promise.

7. God works in everything to fulfill his purpose in the lives of believers

Bible verse about hope:

Romans 8:28:

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Life Application

Some may read the above verse and may have some feelings of doubt about it’s truth if they’re currently going through suffering of some kind, or have in the past.

They may wonder just what kind of good can come from sexual molestation, divorce, abuse, addiction, etc.

The answer to that doubt is given in the following verse:

For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Romans 8:29 (NLT)

If you love and believe in Christ, you can have the peace of mind that God had you in mind at some point in eternity. You love him because e loved you first.

You see, even though we all go through suffering in this world, it does not make verse 28 invalid. In fact, it does quite the opposite.

It is through the trials, tribulations and sufferings of life that God uses to mold us into the image of Christ.

While we will never become deities ourselves, we will indeed have the mind and supernatural bodies that Jesus Christ himself has.

Jesus will always be the supreme being among all of his brothers and sisters.

8. Prayer is the key to unlocking the power of hope

Bible verse about hope:

Romans 12:12:

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Life Application

Believers are hoping to be fully delivered from the suffering and misery of this world, receive their eternal bodies and living with God for all eternity.

It is this hope that should fuel us to push through the suffering in this life and set an example to the lost on what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

The bible commands us to be brave when going through times of trouble and hardship. However, if you think that we must do this under our own strength then, I’m here to let you know that that’s not the case.

In order to have victory of the battles that are presented to us in life we must pray. Prayer is what unlocks the power of hope in our lives. Prayer is where we achieve victory.

It is through prayer that God releases his power and fills us with peace amidst the struggle we are going through. Prayer is also where God reveals knowledge pertaining to the situation to us that we otherwise would have never been able to know if we didn’t pray to him.

I have a blog post about prayer that I highly suggest you read through since it ties in so well with what we’re currently talking about.

9. The word of God gives us hope and encouragement

Bible verse about hope:

Romans 15:4:

Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.

Life Application

All of the scriptures that God caused to be recorded and preserved were done so with the purpose of teaching, encouragement and the giving of hope for us believers.

If you’re not making it a daily habit of digging into the word of God, then you’re missing out on all of these benefits.

The bible is filled with real-life accounts of how God has moved in the lives of people. It has the power to mold our attitude and thoughts about present day life and also the future.

This is especially important in today’s world where each passing day seems more uncertain than the last.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with everything going on in the world, you’ll start to feel more at peace when you read how God moved and what he did in the past during times of great difficulty.

When you read and really pay attention to what God did, you’ll start to feel more confident that even in the chaotic world we live in today, he’s still in full control.

Life Application

God will fill believers with joy and peace as they continue to believe on him. It is impossible to please God without faith. Faith is the key to everything.

When God is pleased with your faith and he fills you with his joy and peace, which by the way is a joy and peace that this world can never offer you, you’ll then be fully confident in God fulfilling his promises of salvation.
