What The Bible Says About Faith

The word “faith” is mentioned literally hundreds of times throughout the entire bible, no matter which translation you’re reading it in.

In this post I want to share 3 bible verses about faith and also give a little word of encouragement for each one. I pray that this post is used for the glory of God and that your faith, no matter how big or small, is increased beyond measure.

So, without further ado, let’s see what our Heavenly Father has to say to each and every one of us by digging into these 3 bible verses about faith!

1. How Much Do You Truly Believe?

I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins too.

Mark 11:24-25 | NLT

Normally, the first half of this verse is the most popular, but the last is a tough pill to swallow for many of us. Here, Jesus lists one of the conditions for answered prayer, forgiveness.

You see, aside from needing to be a believer in Him and strengthening our relationship with Him, we cannot hold grudges in our heart.

It would be super hypocritical of us to expect God to answer our prayer, if we refuse to grant those who have wronged us the very same thing he granted to us, through the death of His Son Jesus, forgiveness.

Another key point to understand in this passage is that the first half doesn’t actually mean what you think it means.

God will not answer your prayer if it is done in selfishness. The Father will not answer any prayer that violates any of the laws of the Kingdom.

When you pray, your faith must totally be in Him who has the power to answer that prayer and NOT in the object or situation that you are praying for.

Keep your motives and worship in check when you bend your knees to speak to the Almighty.

2. What Faith Is and Does

Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

Many agree with the opinion that the above verse is the definition of faith. Others, however, believe that it is a description of what faith does.

The verse above has a very important word, that I believe truly explains what faith is, and that word is confidence.

Now, I’m not talking about confidence as in self-confidence. I’m referring to the confidence that requires it to be BUILT for it to even exist in you in the first place.

What do I mean? Well, the word “confidence” used in the verse above is referring to the level of confidence that you have in God Himself.

How confident are you in His promises for you? How confident are you in Him that you know for a fact that what you’re expecting Him to do will actually happen?

If at this moment, you don’t have such a high level of confidence in Him, then you are what is known as a Human Being.

We were born into a fallen world full of sin, and that confidence that is needed in God is something that is up to you to build up.

How do you build up that confidence in Him? By reading His Word, daily prayer, worship, and just plain trust.

The Bible is full of accounts of other humans who lacked confidence and trust in God, but out of His abundant love and mercy for us, did all He could to instill that trust in them, which in turn, little by little, built up that confidence in Him.

3. Is Your Faith In God or This World?

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

James 1:5-8 | NLT

Our Father in heaven is so awesome, that if you ask Him for knowledge or the ability to make wise decisions, He’ll give it to you, that’s the wisdom that is being spoken of here.

However, God has many ways that He can instill that wisdom in you, and sometimes that wisdom is put in you through the trials of life.

That is not to mean that God is some ruthless tyrant that relishes in our misery. No. What that means is that only God knows the best way to instill a specific kind of wisdom into you.

Maybe He knows that you won’t truly learn or understand something pertaining to what you’re asking unless it’s through a very tough learning process.

When you do ask, remember the advice from earlier; you must have the confidence that what you’re asking God for will be done without a shadow of a doubt.

You cannot ask God to do something and then not truly believe that He can or will do it.

This goes deep into the heart of reading and studying the word. If you are rooted into the truths of the Bible, and you truly do believe every word that is written in all 66 books, then you will have that confidence and trust that He will come through.

However, if you’re new to the faith, or your faith is weak and struggling, then you will have that part of your heart still entangled with the ways of this world.

At some point you will need to declare your loyalty. You will either be loyal to God or be loyal to the world.

If your life is as rocky and chaotic as the waves of the sea, then please do yourself a favor and start building that confidence and trust in God.

Read the Bible and let Him show you how he has impacted the lives of so many people who didn’t have that confidence and trust in Him like you currently do.

For those on the other side of the coin, who have an abundant level of faith in God, be very watchful to not let pride set it’s roots in your soul.

Be humble and obedient to the commands of the Lord and watch Him continue to pour blessing after blessing upon your life.

Every day that you wake up and breathe is an enormous blessing. Be sure to thank the Lord for that blessing by doing His will here on Earth.

Conclusion

I truly hope and pray that you were blessed by these bible verses about faith. Today we all learned the following:

We cannot hold grudges against others if we are expecting God to answer our prayers.

Prayers must be selfless, centered on the Will of God and our faith must only be in Him.

We need to build and continually build our confidence and trust in God.

We must decide at some point who we will declare our loyalty to; either to God or this world.
